In this study attempts were made to investigate the effect of action adventure video game on Iranian EFL intermediate learners’ vocabulary comprehension and production. For this purpose, 40 Iranian intermediate EFL learners were selected via convenience sampling to participate in this study. They were divided into two groups, experimental and control. Their age ranged from 12 to 16. Three kinds of instruments were used in this study. The first one was Nelson Proficiency Test (NPT); the second was vocabulary comprehension test and the third vocabulary production test. Vocabulary comprehension test consisted of 30 multiple choice questions. Vocabulary production test consisted of 30 fill in the blank questions. For data analysis two independent t-tests and one paired sample test were run. Based on the analysis of the collected data, concerning the observed t-value and the significance level (t (78) = 4.34, p < .05), the researcher concluded that action adventure video game had a significant effect on Iranian EFL intermediate learners’ vocabulary comprehension. Also observed t-value and the significance level (t (78) = 4.60, p < .05), indicated that action adventure video game had significant effect on vocabulary production. Based on the results of paired T-test, the participants in both control and experimental group had statistically significant progress in the post test (P ≤0.05). The lowest progress between the results of pre and post-test was observed for control group. The pedagogical implication of this study for EFL students and teachers is that they make the atmosphere of the class exciting for children and young adult. Also they can make student’s language learning experience more meaningful and videogame can facilitate the process of language learning.
